A mini adventure short story, here we go ...

“AHHHHHH! My eyes!! Who turned the light on?” I was having a beautiful dream about, about, something beautiful. Honestly, I never remember my dreams. Anyway, the door opens, and my dad rushes in with a bag full of clothes, and snacks. Mum slowly follows questioning dad to check that he has the keys, the wallet, his phone, his shoes, and so on. 4-year-old son, Bentley waddles in behind and dad places him in the baby seat. After triple checking that we have everything, we start our adventure.

We start off playing “I spy” which gets harder and more monotonous as we reach the countryside. Of course, mum is prepared with her handful of fun so along comes trivia, charades, and singing to classics. There is a bit of an argument from Bentley as he wants to listen to ‘Baby Shark’ a million times. I eventually wish for the radio to break after hearing the same song for the 100th time. A look of satisfaction covers everyone’s face as Bentley starts to doze off and the radio is secretly turned off. Gradually silence overcomes the surroundings as we become more tired and the length of the journey increases.

My thoughts were interrupted as a massive truck at least 4 times as big as me quietly emerged from a hidden side road. Every single alarm bell attached to me screamed out in fear. Luckily dad quickly swerved out of the way which left me in shock. Earlier in the year another car had bumped me slightly and dad was devastated. He had run up to me and made sure nothing was broken or hurt. I had a full check up to make sure everything was ok. I did get a good pat on the back which made me a bit calmer. It was a terrifying experience.

Anyway, there is at least 14km more to drive and I won’t make it. My stomach has been grumbling for the past hour. I plead desperately for dad to feed me. As dad pulls up and parks at a petrol station, I feel happy. He goes in, pays for the petrol and comes out with a couple of drinks and some food. Dad gave me a satisfyingly long drink which rushed down my throat and filled my nearly empty stomach. With a loud burp, we are back on the road.

A glimpse of the turquoise blue waters of the beach and everyone is shouting in their heads. We are finally here. After a long hot journey, I would love a dip in the cooling water. My back is starting to get dirtier, and birds rush to poop on my head. Unfortunately, there are no ramps for me to be taken down to the welcoming shore. This is discrimination in many ways honestly. These humans will shower once a day or even multiple times, but I only get cleaned every once in a while. At least I am in the shade. I will snooze for a couple of hours until we have to return home.

And this is the day in the life of a … CAR.

Did I get inspiration from the flying, invisible car from Harry Potter? Who knows?

Written with sincerity,

Me.
