Everything always sounds more louder and scarier at night…

ree

As part of my night routine, prior to turning the lights off, I always check under my bed and inside my wardrobe to ensure there are no alien creatures hiding in the shadows waiting for darkness to fill my room. I hate being home alone especially after I watch something scary like murder mysteries or crime thrillers because there is somehow more silence, and everything sounds louder and scarier. I always hear unexplainable clicks and steps and it’s terrifying. Sometimes, if I am feeling the slightest bit brave, I will go towards the sounds to ensure no one is there. Of course, I will have my dad’s number up on my phone with my finger directly above the call button just in case I do have unexpected visitors.

I consider those who can watch horror films and scary shows without blinking, complete psychopaths. I am someone who 100% cannot watch horror films. It scares me to the point where I am unable to sleep properly for at least a few days. My friends would take me to the theatres hyping up “Despicable Me” or something fun but instead they have me watch horrible scary things screaming and jumping out of nowhere. All I can say is that I refuse to watch these. I end up paying for tickets to sit in the theatres with my eyes closed and hands tightly covering my ears to block out the terror. For me, blocking out one or both of these senses reduces the scary-ness of the film. There have been times where I go to watch the film and come out of the movies not knowing anything about the story line. You could say it’s a waste of time and money but it’s still fun hanging out with friends and making them happy.

On the other hand, I absolutely love murder mysteries, crime thrillers, and detective shows. Most of the ones I watch are Korean because I used to be a huge Korean drama addict. It used to give me great enjoyment to search up the story line beforehand and spoil the characters and who the murderer is. I honestly have no idea why I used to do this. Although I have slightly better self-control now, I still have the urge sometimes to just search up the plots. The problem with me watching these is that although they may not be as scary, it freaks me out mentally. For a few nights after watching them, I find myself hiding underneath the blankets at night once the lights are turned off hoping I fall asleep quickly. I feel fake presences around me and like I mentioned earlier everything just sounds louder and scarier.

But of all the scary movies, murder mysteries, and crime thrillers, I have watched, the worst amount of fear and insomnia I have felt is after watching Crime Scene. To reduce the length of this post, I will do a part 2 post on Crime Scene.

Now you may think I am crazy or paranoid and I can say that you are probably correct.

Written with sincerity,

Me.
